Lexmark X4270 All In One Printer problem?

My old eMachines crashed the other day, so I got the T5062 model that has Windows Vista. I went to the Lexmark website and downloaded the new driver. It says my driver is installed and yet can only get the printer to print documents half, then freezes. Lexmark representative told me to try connecting a different USB port. But that is an unknown device and that there is something wrong with the USB port (I tested on all ports and is the same error message). Now my printer on the toolbar has a red x on it, even Thomas, who says he is online. Does anyone have any suggestions? I need the printer to print labels. Lexmark said they were sending me a USB hub. What is it and why do I need if my computer has 10 USB ports. Help!
