Phillips gave me my friend the portable DVD player the other day and I was moderately impressed. PET824 was a model with a 8.5 inch screen. In general, I liked the device quite a bit, although it was the largest portable DVD player I've used.
Although the outer case is made of such semi-soft malleable plastic, the machine is solidly together. It feels like you can tolerate the treatment very hard and still work.
Not having property or use a portable DVD player from Philips before, I was curious to see what they have to offer. With sufficiently stimulated my interest, I began to investigate a variety of other models more closely. Philips is the center of the price range portable DVD player with a series of models, all of reasonable quality. While quality is good, there are cheaper players from other manufacturers offering similar quality.
There is a uniform appearance to all players from Philips. For some reason, the declaration of Philips Design is a shiny plastic with rounded edges on the outside. Philips Portable are also slightly thicker and heavier than others many of the same screen size. The controls on the units were perfectly placed, easy to understand and easy to operate.
More importantly, I found the image quality to be very good throughout the whole group. Philips is promoting a feature called his "bright dot policy," which is supposed to fulfill strict intolerance of any defect in bright LCD called points. Who knows how propaganda is promotion, but definitely produce a screen Large LCD, which generates nearly perfect image quality.
I was surprised to know that every model from Philips was able to process a large amount of file formats. Above and beyond DVD movies, can play music, view photos, play MPEG4 and DVD + just to name a few. Most models only have 1 headphone jack, which is a kind of weak at these prices, but if you can overlook the sound quality is actually quite respectable. Of course, external speakers can only sound mediocre quality in all but the best and most expensive portable DVD players. Philips is no exception in this regard, but a moderately good set of ear-buds or headphones dramatically improves sound quality.
Depending on the model, can be anticipated between 4 to 6 hours of battery life, which is pretty good in comparison. However, this battery performance comes at a price and Philips batteries that are quite large and heavy when stacked next to the drives from the competition.
