If you want to start using dial-up Internet access at home, the following steps must be followed to ensure that they will be able to immediately connect to their service.

1. A computer. To use dial-up should ensure not only that you have a computer, but will work with dial-up service. Some ISPs do not need to install any software to connect, so that almost any computer would work. However, if they require you to download their software or run a CD to start your service, you must ensure that their software is compatible with your service.

For example, your computer may not have a CD drive if it is a portable compact. Or maybe you have an older operating systems like Windows 95 or 98. Many facilities are not compatible with these older machines. If you have a Mac or Linux, make sure the ISP is compatible with it, or not functioning. If you are using the modem that came with your computer you have to make sure the modem is installed or updated enough that it will not slow connections. Consult a computer technician if you are not sure there is a modem or is in good condition operation.

2. A modem. If your computer has a modem, or if you use an independent external modem, make sure it is correct modem type. Must be a dial-up modem – broadband modems will not work. Also make sure that your modem will be compatible with the services you would like to have your dial-up. For example, if you want to add an Internet call-waiting feature dial-up service, you need to have a standard computer V.92. Otherwise there may be notified of incoming calls while you are online. Also, if the modem is not in good working condition, for example, is not that the latest driver software or has been damaged or corrupted, will not be able to use it. Third, if the modem is too old and not have the latest rule, can not connect as fast as a new one, so if you know your modem is not V.92, it may be necessary to obtain a new one so you can get better speeds connection.

3. A land-line telephone. This means your phone line must be an analog phone – phone cable digital telephones, and (usually) mobile phones do not work. Dial-up using the analog phone lines because of how it converts and transmits information. It's like a normal phone. If you try to use Dial on any other phone, you get an error because the modem connection can not detect the analog dial tone. Consult your phone provider if you are not sure if it is compatible with telephone access. Also, please account will not be able to use the phone and internet simultaneously, so if you want to keep their toll-free phone calls, you may need to add a second line to your home. However, if you do not want two lines, simply add the call waiting and caller ID for you land line and if you have a V.92 modem, you must be notified of incoming calls while you're online.

4. A telephone wire. This may sound silly, but some people forget this step. To get Internet through dial-up, must have a phone cord attached to the back of the modem or the back of your computer to the phone jack in the wall. You may want to get a splitter for your phone line can share the phone jack with computer, or may be able to connect your computer to phone or vice versa, using the line "in" and "Line Out" jacks on the phone or in the back of the computer.

Another important thing to remember is that the phone cord should be as short as possible. Some cable feet over 6 could affect your ability to connect to the Internet, or affect the speed with which you can connect. The longer the cable is more likely to have slow connections or withdrawn. Also, you may need to get a backup phone cord if the cord is damaged it intends to use. If you buy a modem, cable phone extra usually included.

Now that you have all your supplies ready, all you need do is call to order Internet services and connect immediately!
