Finally, a Sony mini laptop is here, the P-series Sony VAIO. Although not in any way expected, a Openbook adapted Via, the P series of Sony VAIO has all size and credentials of weight they should be netbooks. It weighs 638g lowercase, which is about two thirds the weight of the original netbook, the Asus Eee PC 701. As a thin MacBook heavenly air, the P series is also under 2 cm thick at 19.8mm and only "a little bigger than an office on."
However, the impressive specs do not stop there …
The LED-backlit display, 8 inches wide and in a widescreen format, has a surprisingly high resolution of 1600×768 (compared to 1024×600 for your netbook every day). In that resolution, it is unlikely you will ever need part very moving again, since most websites are not so wide. Battery life is listed as 4 hours for the standard model, or 8 for the battery Large capacity – enough for a full days work.
My jaw hit the deck when I saw the amount of SSD storage unit is P series offering – up to 128 GB. SSD or solid state storage requires no moving parts and therefore very durable. But it's very expensive to produce a large storage facility SSD has meant that most of the netbooks have had about 16 GB caps. A hard disk version is also available storage offering 60GBs.
Sony has added some additional features intelligent. First, a GPS that does not require Internet access (in the U.S. and Canada – more of that later), Windows Vista – the first by a team of this small and a variety of connectivity options, wireless LAN, 3G broadband, 802.11n wireless LAN and Bluetooth for wherever you're connected mobile phone signal. Other common features such as Webcam 'Motion Eye' and the microphone also include, without forgetting the xross Sony 'Media Bar', common with the PlayStation 3, Bravia HDTV range.
The inclusion of Vista is interesting. Most netbooks have not been diverted over 1 GB of RAM while the new Sony 2GB. Processing power is a little on the light side but from the P series will come only with a 1.33 GHz processor from Intel, the Intel Atom not common to most netbooks – perhaps suggesting how much Sony wants to disengage from the "look cheap and cheerful "netbook. As mentioned earlier in our article on the VAIO TT – Try looking netbook on the site of Sony VAIO – nothing.
Of course it is only just made available in the U.S. (on today January
– starting at $ 899, that runs on a £ 600 today (painful) exchange rate. And here's the kicker …
It hits the shelves in the United Kingdom and in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Russia in February. We can not wait to get our hands on one.
