GPS navigation for ipod touch

by admin on March 15, 2010

The GPS Navigation & Battery Cradle provides a complete navigation solution for the ipod touch, including the navatlas® turn-by-turn navigation app with TTS technology, and the latest US and Canada maps. The Cradle features a built-in GPS Receiver, Rechargeable Battery, Amplified Speaker, Audio Out connection and Mini USB port. An Adjustable Windshield Mount is included for in-car use. The Cradle, which resembles a thin battery case, is super portable and can be used for in-car navigation (with the provided fully adjustable windshield mount) as well as for handheld use. The built-in GPS receiver provides GPS data to most lcoation-based apps. The navatlas app, which works exclusively with the Cradle, will be available on the itunes App Store for free.

The software they are showing in the video looks exactly like G-Map. I don’t know if they’ve licensed G-Map for private label or what, but if you have an iPhone 3G or 3GS, and you like what you see here, G-Map is available at the appStore.

Does it work with other GPS apps on the iphone like Google maps, topo maps app, Geocaching app etc..
If it does you guys will sell allot!!! The Iphone Geocaching app is the best Geocaching on ANY GPS.You guys should really make shure you get your GPS add on to support it! an I would love iPhone support too since the iPhones GPS Stinks!

Okay, really? Almost January and still no device? I’d love to buy it but I don’t see it anywhere.

This thing blows the tom tom out of the water. this have a free application and much smaller reciever that you can just keep on the device. The tom tom you can only use in the car with a bulky device which costs $100 bucks and you have to pay $50 for the app. What a rip off. this device has free and hopefully a price under 100 as stand alone units now cost 50 bucks

Would Gowalla and Foursquare work?

jiminycrickett5 January 20, 2010 at 11:22 pm

But why did they design it for the Touch exclusively? I own an iPhone, not a Touch. Unless I missed something, this device will do me and millions like me no good whatsoever.

maximlef January 23, 2010 at 4:58 pm

@jiminycrickett5 iPhone have some gps things in it like maps..not the ipod touch cause you always need wifi, except for this time ! :)

Just got an email update. Due out late February in the US first. Details about exactly when/where and how much aren’t yet official. Here’s what little I know do know.
Price: $179.99.
Will the GPS Cradle fit over your case? No. The GPS Cradle only adds 0.7 of thickness & 3 oz. of weight.
You can sync and charge via the USB port.
Free NavAtlas is a little over 2GB. Released Jan. 9th.

More details:
NavAtlas works best with destinations with street addresses. It will remember previous addresses youve typed in as well as let you create you own personal POI list (this lets you turn a destination into a recallable landmark.) If youre out hiking and want to set a waypoint based on a specific latitude & longitude, try a different app (Topo Maps & Gaia GPS come to mind).

TouchDawg February 11, 2010 at 4:28 pm
