If you're like me, you probably want to compare GPS devices before you buy it one for the GPS for you. Although Prices have fallen a lot over the last two years, spending hundreds of dollars and not getting the right device is probably not what you want to do.

Especially if you buy the GPS device as a gift, you want to be sure that you get lucky.

There are so many features that these things have their comparison may seem a bit overwhelming. I think I can make this task easier for you.

All of these characteristics confusing actually break into two groups – the characteristics that each GPS unit and then additional features will cost you more money. Let what characteristics are shared by all GPS first.

(I speak specifically of post-market devices Auto no GPS systems for hiking, GPS watch, or anything else.)

All GPS devices can do the following:

* Know where you are and calculate how to take you where you want to go.
* Show you where you are on a touch screen.
* You say in how get where you're going with voice prompts.
* Pre-loaded with maps Come (minimum regional maps).
* Give you a choice of 3-D, or "bird "Eye View maps on the screen.
* Come Pre-loaded with thousands of destinations, such as service stations, hotels and hospitals.

Then we'll talk about things that you must pay extra.

Some companies have characteristics specific to them. For example, many devices come with GPS Magellan pre AAA Tour Book-loaded (for AAA members only). I love AAA, and for me this is certainly a good element to have.

Some other features are company specific voice commands, soon out on Garmin devices and generated content user addresses on things and other destinations on the Tom Tom devices.

Additional features you can find online through virtually all GPS are:

* In fact, you say street names instead of simply saying "Turn left!".
* Choosing a larger screen – 4.3 inches along the diagonal.
* Maps of Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico or Europe.
* Capacity integrate into your mobile phone via Bluetooth.
* Possibility for the user to enter multiple destinations at the same weather.
* Ability to MP3 and also the audio-book capacity.
* Database of points of interest (POI) which is counted in millions, instead few hundred thousand.

When you combine the features of this case, the problem of comparing GPS devices becomes much more manageable.

Now that you're armed with this information, it is time to visit some sites and actually know what GPS unit is right for you.
